If you have recently got yourself Amazon Echo probably you may not know how it can be helpful especially with it comes to remembering things or doing something hands-free. We bring you 7 things Alexa can do to keep you away from your phone. You don’t always need to play around with your phone to get things done via an app. Alexa offers a number of commands which you can use to get a few tasks done without even picking up your phone.
Alexa can come in handy while you are hands are full and need to make a last-minute call before you go out, you can ask Alexa to do it. You can also ask Alexa to order paper towels in case you just realized you are out of paper towels.
You will need to set up these commands before you can start using them. All you need to do is a link to certain accounts and enable permissions for Alexa to do things on your behalf. There are plenty of things Alexa can do we made it easy for you to understand. Use the power of your voice, no more using the app every time you need to get things done.
Make calls or Send Texts
You will require to set up your Amazon Echo, once you share the phone contacts. Select yes in the option if you want to start using Alexa to call or text your friends and family. You can make calls by simply saying something like “Alexa call Mom.”
You can also send a text message using your voice, need to set permission for the Alexa app to receive the message. Once done you have the app give a voice command such as “Alexa, text [friend name] and tell Alexa what to send.
Delete your Voice Recordings
To delete your Voice Recordings you don’t need to pick up your phone to go into the app. Earlier last year Amazon introduced a couple of Alexa voice commands, these commands will allow you to delete your voice transcripts. All you need to say is “Alexa, delete everything I said today” or “Alexa, delete what I just said.”
No need to tap your smartphone to play music from your favorite app. Alexa can do it for you, play songs from Prime Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, and more. Tell Alexa what song or playlist you want to listen to. Though you will need to enable the skill and link to your preferred music account if you want to listen to a music streaming service other than Amazon.
Control Smart Home Devices
Alexa also gives you magic powers literally, just kidding though you can use your voice to turn on or off the lights. Connect your smart device like a smart switch or smart bulb with Amazon Echo and say “Alexa, turn the living room fan on” or “Alexa, tell the robot vacuum to start cleaning.” Works like magic easy peasy.
Set reminders and alarms
Gone are the days when you used the alarm clock via an app on your phone. At times you are too lazy and tired to reach for the phone while you are just about to fall asleep. No need to worry Alexa comes with a voice command which allows you to set alarms. All you do is say “Alexa set an alarm for 7 a.m. tomorrow” without getting out of the bed.
Create shopping and to-do lists
Alexa is handy when it comes to creating shopping or to-do lists. You don’t need to jot down everything in a rush, instead ask Alexa to add it to your list, and in case you want to have a look at it, you still have the app.
You can create to-do lists to remember tasks you require to complete during the day or a week. To add a task you say “Alexa, add X project to my to-do list” or “Alexa, create a to-do list called work tasks.” This enables you to understand what are the things needed to be accomplished and knock them off your list.
Do your shopping
Alexa helps you shop if you are not able to the store during the week, order what you need through Prime Now. For this, you will need to set up Alexa for voice purchasing. Open the app> Menu > Settings > Account Settings > Voice Purchasing and toggle the Purchase by voice setting on. This will enable Alexa for voice purchasing, to make a purchase all you say is “Alexa, I’d like to purchase toothpaste.” The toothpaste will be added to your cart and Alexa will ask you to confirm that you want to buy it now.
