The arrival of Android 12.1 reveals the new Pixel Foldable, it will be the first point release after Android 8.1 in 2017. The upcoming Android update shows signs of a New Google Pixel Foldable.
According to 9to5Google, there are references to a new Pixel Foldable, codename Jumbojack. The report suggests the foldable is used as a test device and might be only for internal use only. What’s interesting is Google is calling it a Pixel device, showing signs of it being a commercial product.
The Jumbojack device will be used by Google to test “posture features”. These include hinge positions such as open, closed, “half-opened,” and more.
9to5Google about the actual form factor said, the new Pixel foldable features two displays. This indicates an in-folding design with an internal folding screen and a smaller external display. This is different from what we have witnessed with the Huawei Mate XS out-folding form factor.
Google’s First Foldable
Earlier last year there was news about a new Pixel foldable codenamed Passport. The first foldable is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2021, though it is not clear if it will be accompanied by the Jumbojack device.
Evan Blass, a popular leaker, supports the existence of the Passport device. In his tweet on Twitter, confirmed the Passport code name and its release by the end of 2021. He further said Google has been working on the device for more than two years.
There were also reports from South Korea, which suggest the future foldable Pixel will offer a 7.6-inch foldable display and ultra-thin glass. This device is most likely to be a Passport, as the screen size matches with it. It is more likely Jumbojack foldable could be a smaller, clamshell-style foldable like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Stay tuned to catch up with the latest update on the upcoming Pixel Foldable and more from Google. It will be a challenge for Google to make a dent in the foldable smartphone segment, with players like Samsung leading the pack.
