Apple’s Tap to Pay feature will soon be available on iPhone, this feature will enable iPhone users to make payments by tapping their card or iPhone to another iPhone. Already Apple Pay offers users contactless payment options where they can tap their credit card or debit card or phone.
Apple announced Tap to Pay feature coming soon to iPhones, it will allow merchants to accept payments, making iPhone a contactless payment terminal.
Stores need to have an app for their iPhone to use Tap to Pay. This will allow them to hold their iPhone, Apple Watch, or supported debit or credit card when a customer checks out to the merchant’s iPhone to pay.
The feature will be available across all Apple stores in the US later this year. It will include all payment networks such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, said in a statement, “As more and more consumers are tapping to pay with digital wallets and credit cards, Tap to Pay on iPhone will provide businesses with a secure, private, and easy way to accept contactless payments and unlock new checkout experiences using the power, security, and convenience of iPhone.”
Other tech companies such as Samsung and Google are also exploring the contactless payments options for their own payment apps. Amazon has already launched a number of Amazon Go stores where customers don’t require a cashier to check out. The retail giant recently unveiled a new version of its Go stores aimed at suburban customers.
