Free YouTube Music users Will Soon Get Background Playback

YouTube Music feature already allows users to enjoy the background playback feature. YouTube in a blog post mentioned, free YouTube Music users will also be able to play music in the background, a feature reserved for paying subscribers earlier.

The latest development will enable users to close the app, minimize the screen, or lock their phone without the music from the app interrupting and without having to close the message informing you background playback is available only for paying subscribers.

This feature will be initially available to YouTube users in Canada from November 3, 2021.

With this YouTube Music will provide a radio-like experience for free users, though it will have ads, unlike the Premium account which is ads-free. The latest feature will also offer continuous radio stations based on your favorite songs, albums, and artists. Users can also listen to personalized playlists on shuffle. If you are worried about your uploaded songs on the YouTube Music app, don’t worry you will be able to play them anytime.

The latest feature also comes with a hands-free YouTube Music experience for drivers thanks to Google Assistant driving mode.

YouTube has not mentioned any specific date for the global rollout, though it mentioned that an announcement of expansion plans will be coming soon.
