Google rolls out new Drive Desktop App for Mac and Windows users to backup and sync files.
In a blogpost, Google said it will replace the backup and sync app as it has become critical to keep files, folders, and photos safe, synced between devices, backed up, and organized. Keeping in mind the number of people creating content and more devices being used to access this content.
The latest desktop will offer the best experience of backup, sync, and drive file stream. Users will be able to upload and sync photos and videos across Google Photos and Drive. It will also offer an option to sync external storage devices as well as cloud storage. Users can also mirror Drive files on their computers via the local version of stored files for faster access.Additionally, you can also sync local folders similar to your desktop and documents. The integration with Microsoft Outlook and Meet scheduling will enable you to view who is editing Microsoft Office files in real-time.Google has renamed the app to Drive for Desktop, users will witness additional features for Backup and Sync in the coming months. Users will be prompted to switch over from Backup and Sync to Drive for Desktop. Officially, Backup and Sync will stop working from 1st October, users will have to keep their backups updated on Drive for a successful transition.
