How to Use DuckDuckGo’s Privacy-First Email
Reading Time: 3 minutes

DuckDuckGo has been around since 2008 and is known for its privacy focused search engine. The company will offer a privacy first email service that will give you an @duck.com email address. This email id can be used as a buffer between the actual email address, DuckDuckGo Email Protection will help strip them off the tracking technologies which are often embedded in the emails, which reveal the senders when and where you’re viewing your messages, and even which links you’re clicking through.

DuckDuckGo’s Privacy-First Email will also enable you to create aliases. These are temporary addresses you can use for sign up forms on the web and delete if they are being spammed or receiving too many marketing emails. Apple also offers a similar service called Hide my Email. DuckDuckGo will be offering this service for free, though it will be available in beta. This may lead to occasional bugs or hiccups and may get more features by the time it is fully launched for the public.

Email ProtectionHow to Use DuckDuckGo’s Privacy-First Email_2DuckDuckGo is a search engine that removes tracking data from its email service. Any emails sent through DuckDuckGo will be stripped of the tracker information, and you’ll see a summary of the work done to strip the tracker at the top of each email.

The summary outlines the tracking tools that have been stripped out of this message. If the service has upgraded any links to be secure HTTPS, it will be indicated in the bottom of this summary. There is a feedback form at the bottom if you notice any problems with the service.

To delete a private email address, you need to find an email sent to this address and then click “Deactivate” next to the email address on the summary of the message. This is not the most elegant way of managing your email addresses, but it does the job.

DuckDuckGo offers email protection to block unwanted messages, and you can find settings for this in the mobile DuckDuckGo app.
