The latest Instagram security checkup features help users recover hacked accounts, it aims to keep the user accounts safe.
Users can gain access to lost accounts after undergoing a series of steps. Users will be prompted to check recent login activity, reviewing profile information, and updating contact details such as phone numbers or email.
The Facebook-owned social media platform has also advised users to use turn-on two-factor authentication for extra security and preventing unauthorized logins.
Instagram will now allow its users from select countries to use their WhatsApp numbers to authenticate their accounts.

In an effort to caution its users, the social media platform had stressed, “Instagram will never send you a [direct message].” Malicious accounts reach out via DM’s to try and access sensitive information like account passwords, pretending to warn that the account may be banned for violating policies around intellectual property. Instagram users need to be careful of such scams.
According to Instagram, “If Instagram ever wants to reach you about your account, we will do so via the ‘Emails from Instagram’ tab in your settings, which is the only place you will find direct and authentic communication from us on the app.”
