Epic Games has taken a decision to allow crypto game releases on its stores, after Steam made its stand clear on cryptocurrency and NFT’s, by banning them from the platform.
Steam in a blog post said it will remove any future compatibility with games that use NFT or Cryptocurrency. Epic Games has wasted no time in capturing players dismayed by the decision, and made a decision to make its platform for games that support cryptocurrency or blockchain-based assets.”
Epic Games Will Allow Crypto Game Releases
Developers of SpacePirate have been working on a title with NFT integration, it was the first indication of Steam’s vision on the inclusion of blockchain on its platform.
The decision by Steam is now clear where it stated it will not get involved with in-game items and real-life. Valves have clearly mentioned it in the rules for what developers should not publish.
Tim Sweeny, founder, and CEO of EPIC in a tweet said, “Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic’s not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.”
Epic grabbed this opportunity, choosing to potentially work with developers and creators using blockchain technology in their titles.
Sweeny further added, “As a technology, the blockchain is just a distributed transactional database with a decentralized business model that incentivizes investment in hardware to expand the database’s capacity. This has utility whether or not a particular use of it succeeds or fails.”
It is still early to predict how Epic Games will manage to support this decision. The decision has been welcomed by many players, welcoming Epic’s open-mindedness, and are curious to see its prospects in the future.
