A rare copy of Super Mario 64 video game auctioned for $1.56 million in an auction hosted by Heritage Auctions.
The rare copy of Super Mari0 64 video game from 1996 has been the highest ever graded by Wata. Wata is an organization that officially grades collectible video games making them more valuable when appraised or sold.
With Super Mario 64, Nintendo introduced the signature character in its 3D video game. Prior to this Mario appeared in two-dimensional, side-scrolling games such as the original Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
According to Valarie McLeckie, Heritage Auctions Video Games Specialist, “It seems impossible to overstate the importance of this title, not only to the history of Mario and Nintendo but to video games as a whole.”
Earlier last week a rare copy of the NES Game “The Legend of Zelda” from 1997 sold for $870,000 by Heritage Auctions.
