The Last of Us Part 1 games sales have boosted in the UK following HBO’s TV series based on The Last of Us.
It was reported last week that HBO’s TV adaptation of the popular game Naughty Dog gained over 4.7 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max in its first episode. HBO said that House of the Dragon had the best debut last year. We already saw it with the release of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime series on Netflix, and the release of the TV show also had a positive effect on game sales in the UK (and likely globally).
According to GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring, sales of both Last of Us Part I from 2022 and the original PS4 version from 2014 increased significantly. Dring writes that The Last of Us Part 1 returns at No.20 with a 238% spike in sales week-on-week, “the biggest riser of the week”.
The PS4 version of the game, The Last of Us: Remastered, also re-entered the charts at No.32 with a 322% increase in sales.
It’s impressive to see a 2014 title return to the charts following the HBO series’ release, but we’ll update as soon as we learn more about sales figures for The Last of Us.
Naughty Dog announced earlier this month that the Last of Us franchise has sold over 37 million copies worldwide since 2013.
Neil Druckman from Naughty Dog wrote, “We are so proud to announce that The Last of Us franchise has sold over 37 million copies globally by December 2022, and continues to reach new and old players every day”. We drive forward as a studio knowing Joel, Ellie, and all our characters have been loved and experienced by so many of you.”
