US Steamship Authority hit by ransomware attack disrupts ferry operations between the state’s mainland and pleasure-resorts on the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
The steamship authority website is down after it was targeted in a hacker attack.
The company in a tweet on Twitter said “The Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority has been the target of a ransomware attack that is affecting operations as of Wednesday morning. As a result, customers traveling with us today may experience delays.”
Currently, efforts are in progress to regain normalcy, as the IT professionals are assessing the impact of the attack. Further information will be available after the completion of the initial assessment.
The Steamship Authority operates several freight vessels and is the only ferry operator to carry automobiles to and from the islands.
