Linux Mint releases Linux Mint 19.2 a much-awaited Linux distribution based on Ubuntu. Linux Mint 19.2 was released yesterday and will be supported up to 2023. How to upgrade to Linux Mint 19.2?
1. Create a system snapshot
Before you start upgrading to Linux Mint 19.2 you can use Timeshift to make a system snapshot.
This will enable you to easily restore your operating system to its previous state, just in case something goes wrong.
From the Application, menu launches Timeshift and follow the simple instructions on the screen which will guide you to configure and create a system snapshot.
2. Prepare for the upgrade
Once you have taken the system screenshot you can move ahead to upgrading to the latest version. Make sure you have disabled your screen saver and if you have installed Cinnamon spices ie applets, desklets, extensions, themes, you will need to upgrade them. This can be done by going to System Settings.
3. Upgrade the operating system
It is relatively easy to upgrade to Linux Mint 19.2, head over to Update Manager. Click on the Refresh button to check for any new version of the mint update and mint-upgrade-info. If there are updates for these packages you will need to apply them.
Go to Edit > Upgrade to Linux Mint 19.2 Tina to launch the System Upgrade.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
If you are asked to keep or replace configuration files you can choose to replace them.
4. Add/remove packages
If you wish to add or remove packages you can, this is optional, for Linux Mint 19 users.
P7zip-full: It provides users the ability to create password encrypted archives and xul-ext-lightning Calendar support in Thunderbird which were added to Linux Mint 19.1. You can install these packages by opening the terminal window and typing the following commands.

Remove XScreensaver hacks: If you are running the Cinnamon edition, the XScreensaver hacks are no longer supported by Cinnamon screensaver. To remove them you need to open a terminal window and type:
- [su_label type=”black”]apt remove –purge xscreensaver-data xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-g[/su_label]
- [su_label type=”black”]apt remove –purge xscreensaver-data xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-gl xscreensaver-gl-extra cinnamon-screensaver-webkit-plugin cinnamon-screensaver-x-plugin [/su_label]
After you finish upgrading the system you will need to reboot your computer.
