Amazon’s latest fashion store will have algorithms to suggest what to try on and one corporate director called “a magic closet” in the fitting room.
Amazon on Thursday in a move to push growth in its fashion business announced the opening of its first-ever apparel store this year, with a tech twist.
Simoina Vasen, managing director, Amazon said, “We wouldn’t do anything in physical retail unless we felt we could significantly improve the customer experience.” The planned Amazon Style 30000 square feet store near Los Angeles, is smaller than a typical department store. Customers can pick the items on the racks and scan a code using Amazon’s mobile app to select the color and size they would like. Shoppers can enter a virtual queue for a fitting room to try on the clothes stored in the back, which can be unlocked with their smartphone when it is ready.
According to Vasen, inside the dressing room, there is a personal space for customers to continue shopping without having to leave. Shoppers can request more items using the touchscreen that the staff delivers to a secure, two-sided closet “within minutes.”She further added, “It’s like a magic closet with the seemingly endless selection.” Shoppers can get suggestions from touchscreens, while Amazon keeps records of every good they scan allowing the algorithms to personalize clothing recommendations.
Additionally, they can fill up the style survey, so by the time they arrive at the fitting room, the store staff already deposited the customers requested items and others that Amazon has picked. The latest Amazon store aims to attract a broad range of shoppers with hundreds of brands.
According to Vasen, it has hundreds of associates, and no cashierless checkout like some Amazon stores, Shopper can use a biometric system known as Amazon One, which will allow you to pay with a swipe of the palm.
