Bored Ape NFT Collection fetches $24M at Sotheby on Sept 9, which just goes to show Non-fungible token (NFT) mania is showing no signs of slowing down.
The Bored Ape NFT collection had an estimated worth of $12-$18 million until it was finally smashed by the winning bid. The auction also saw a collection of 101 Bored Ape Kennel Club NFTs sold for $1.8 million.
Another primate-themed collection up there were CryptoPunks which sold for $16.9 million in mid-May and Beeple’s whopping $69 million sales in March. There was a surge in the average price of Bored Ape to around $241,000 from just $3,600 in just two months.
Apes and NFTs
Initially, the Yuga Labs collection consisted of 10000 partially random “Bored Ape” Ethereum based NFTs. These come with unique characteristics such as fur, hats, eye patches, necklaces, and earrings. Ape owners get a membership to the club along with benefits such as NFT drops, merchandise, and access to a collaborative graffiti board.
BAYC has been able to attract buyers ever since its launch on April 30, this includes the likes of NBA star Steph Curry who spent 55 ETH or around $180,000 for an Ape in late August.
Mutant Ape Yacht club, another variation of the Ape NFT, is selling on OpenSea. Only 20000 NFTs can be currently created by exposing an existing Bored Ape to a vial of the so-called “Mutant Serum,” or by minting a Mutant Ape in the public sale.
Earlier in August, Bored Ape owners were airdropped one of three “serums” M1, M2, or “Mega Mutant” M3. A combination of M1 or M2 with their existing Ape results in Mutant Ape retaining original traits. While the M3 serum creates an entirely different Ape, with potentially rare traits which could make it all the more valuable.
Watch out for Sneaky Vampires
Rarity Tools, a platform that ranks NFT in the order of rarity, Ape number 7495 is currently the rarest. While the red-eyed beast is up for auction for a cool 1,777.7 ETH, or $6.2 million right now.
According to BeInCrypto, a new NFT community called the Sneaky Vampire Syndicate was launched by one of the artists behind the BAYC. BeInCrypto has released its own NFT charity collection to celebrate its third anniversary, you can find it here.
