Elon Musk offers a 19 year-old $5000 to Take Down Flight-Tracking Twitter bot

According to Protocol, Elon Musk offered a 19 year old $5000 to take down flight tracking Twitter bot. 

The kid was able to track Musk’s private jet using bots that monitor publicly available air traffic data. Jack Sweeney, the owner of @ElonJet account received a message last year at 12:13 a.m. from Musk. The message read,  “Can you take this down? It is a security risk.”

According to Protocol, Sweeney said, “Yes I can but it’ll cost you a Model 3 only joking unless?” 

The conversation went on for a few more messages where Musk said, I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase and offered Sweeney $5,000.

Sweeney asked him to add another 0, he said if the amount could go up to $50k it can support his college and allow him to buy a car perhaps even a Model 3.

Musk said he would be thinking about it but has not responded after that. According to Protocol, Sweeney told Musk he was aggregating the data from, though it is not clear if Protocol viewed the Twitter messages exchanged.

Earlier this month Musk tweeted his concerns about social media tracking his movement, as its” becoming a security issue.”
