Social media giant Facebook plans to hire 10000 to build Metaverse in the European Union over the next five years.
According to a statement made on Monday by Facebook, this will be its plan of action in a bid to build the so-called metaverse — a nascent online world where people exist and communicate in shared virtual spaces. Earlier Mark Zuckerberg showed his liking for the technology and this would be a significant step in that direction.
Earlier in September Facebook committed $50 million towards building the metaverse. The other companies already working in this segment are Roblox Corp and “Fortnite” maker Epic Games.
The social media giant earlier tested a new virtual-reality remote work app that allows Oculus Quest 2 headset users to hold meetings as avatar versions of themselves.
According to Facebook, “This investment (in new jobs) is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European tech industry and the potential of European tech talent. Europe is hugely important to Facebook.”
