Instagram Twitter Cards launch dampened by Instagram not working, the service was knocked out for an amount of time.
Instagram made an official announcement via its official Instagram account on Twitter at approximately 12:19 PM central time on November 3, 2021. While the Down Detector Instagram issues started at right around 12:30.
According to Instagram users can now use Twitter Card previews for Instagram posts. When users post an Instagram link on Twitter, a preview of the said post will appear for all to see. As long as you are using the latest version of the Twitter app, a preview for the said Instagram post will appear.
This may just be a coincidence, though Instagram is having some issues today for a number of users. When users go to the main Instagram home page, their news feed will likely not appear. Instead, they get a message which says, “Sorry, this page isn’t available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed. Go back to Instagram.”
While when one visits the individual home page on Instagram, users are likely to get luckier. According to Instagram, it is having issues with serving content in real-time, but that cached content is sticking around as it should in a situation such as this.
Also, Instagram direct messaging (DMs) are non-functional. Similarly, other platforms such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp are also not working. Something we have witnessed with Facebook services when one goes down the rest goes with it.
Facebook has faced similar outages in the recent past, though with its rebranding the social media giant is trying to change its image. Earlier on October 28, 2021 Meta said, “the names of the apps that we build – Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp – will remain the same.”
Only time will tell if the name change would result in more reliable service, despite the umbrella company’s changing mission. Surely such outages will not go well for the metaverse that Meta is aiming to deliver.
