Alexa Announcements - How to Relay Your Voice to All Your Amazon Echo Devices
Reading Time: 2 minutes

It would be wonderful to relay your voice to all your Amazon Echo devices as it can help you hurry your family along or maybe announce that dinner is ready. “Alexa Announcements”  is the feature that’s been around for a while that can help you achieve this.

About Alexa Announcements
Alexa Announcements allow you to make announcements on all your compatible Alexa Devices in your household with just a one-time upfront set up. It’s like using an intercom.

Echos can relay announcements, like messages and music, to everyone who has an Echo in their home. Whenever someone nearby gets an announcement, the Echo will let them know with a short chime.

Alexa Announcements, allow you to create announcements on devices other than Echo such as smartphones with the Alexa app and Fire tablets.

How Alexa Announcements work?

Create your own announcement
To create your own Alexa Announcement, say “Alexa, announce”, and then say your announcement aloud. You can also say “Alexa, broadcast”, and again, tack on your voice message at the end.

When you say “Alexa, broadcast ‘the movie is starting.'” Everyone in your home within the vicinity of an Echo device will hear a chime followed by you saying, “the movie is starting.”

Use stock announcements
To use stock announcements, say to your Echo device, “Alexa, announce that dinner is ready,” and “Dinner is ready”. This will be announced in your voice, along with a ringing dinner bell, to all other compatible Echo and Alexa devices in your household. Additionally you can also say, “Alexa, tell everyone…” to make an announcement.

Numerous other voice commands included are:

  • Dinner is ready
  • Congratulations
  • It’s time for bed
  • It’s time to wake up
  • Let’s watch TV
  • Fart
  • … and many more

How to exclude Echo Devices?
To exclude a  specific device within your household, say, in the bedroom where your mommy is sleeping, Amazon mentioned you can use the Do Not Disturb setting.

Echo Devices that Support Alexa Announcements
Amazon’s entire lineup of Echo smart speakers support Alexa Announcements feature. This does not include third-party Alexa devices, though the Alexa app is on smartphones and in Fire tablets supports the feature.

Can Google Home do announcements?
Google Home also offers a similar feature for its line of smart speakers. Simply you need to say “Hey Google, broadcast ‘It’s time for dinner!’” and your message will be sent through, This will be in the Assistant’s voice and not your own.
