Wemo Smart Video Doorbell is the latest offering for Apple HomeKit users. The Wemo, Belkin’s smart home brand brings its new Smart Video Doorbell at CES. It offers a 178-degree field of view, a 4-megapixel camera, and person detection based on the people you tag in Apple’s iOS Photos app.
The Wemo Smart Video Doorbell offers an exclusive Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video platform and offers end-to-end video encryption for privacy. Users with HomePod, Apple TV, or an iPad set up as a home hub will be able to take advantage of these features the most. While all the video processing is performed locally you can also upload the footage to your iCloud account. Where you only will be able to access it.
It operates on your existing 16-24V wiring, so it won’t be an ideal choice if you already have a doorbell. Also, it does not offer a separate chime which means you have to depend on the existing one. It has a dual-band Wi-Fi adapter onboard (2.4/5GHz), and motion sensors that can detect the presence of a person, animal, or vehicle in its field of view, and send notifications to your iOS device.
The Wemo Smart Video Doorbell is IP55 weatherproof, this will keep out enough dust to prevent failure, and withstand moderate water jets from any direction. Wemo
The Wemo Smart Video Doorbell is priced at $250 and is available for order now in the U.S. and Canada. The company has also tied up with OnTech, which will deal with low voltage wiring issues for $100.
Additionally, Belkin will also be releasing its Wemo smart plug, light switch, and dimmer that will support Matter over Thread, scheduled to launch in the first half of this year. Matter over thread is a smart home interoperability effort spearheaded by the Connectivity Standards Alliance backed by Amazon, Google, Signify (Philips Hue), Samsung SmartThings, and other big players in the smart home space.
