Have you ever imagined using an Android smartphone without Google services and apps running with it? /e/ Foundation has long been working on refurbished smartphones running on Android but without Google since 2019. Google-Free Android Smartphones will now be available to US customers.

Earlier the company was focused on this mission-specific to Europe, but now /e/ Foundation has enough supply of refurbished phones to start offering Google-free handsets in the US.

Classed as premium refurbished Samsung Galaxy S9  and Galaxy S9+ were available for $380 and  $430 respectively. These phones were fully functional, with tested cameras and fully functional batteries. The refurbished models also carried one year warranty, carrier unlocked, and came with a headset, quick start guide, and SIM tray pin in the box.

Google-free Android phone

It means an Android phone features a Google-free operating system called /e/ OS. According to the foundation they have removed parts of the code used to send personal data to remote servers without the user’s consent. The company also does not scan your data on your phone or in your cloud space. Also, it does not track your location to collect information on what you do with your apps. 

The refurbished Google-free Android phone doesn’t come with Google Play Store access. Instead, you get access to open source apps that take care of browser, email, calendar, maps, camera apps. As /e/OS also runs on Android most of your favorite Android apps run on it. 

Apart from this users can enjoy over 60,000 free apps available directly from the phone. You can check the apps you rely on using Application Checker if they work.
