The latest Huawei Mate Xs 2 redefines foldable phone design. The foldable phone makes it even more difficult for users to decide on the best foldable phone. Every design comes with its pros and cons, though Samsung seems to be a clear choice for many.
Samsung has been at the forefront when it comes to the development of foldable devices. This can be seen from the fact that they have more foldable devices in the market as of now. OPPO and Vivo have been quick to implement foldable phones and are slowly moving up the ladder.Chinese brand Huawei is not an outsider when it comes to foldable phones. The company has been promoting a different design and now is being regarded as the common fold. After a bit of negligence to this form, Huawei is getting back to the drawing board with a minor modification that can prove to be a game-changer.
A foldable phone can be inefficient or at times compromise its use. When we talk about a foldable phone we imagine it to fold like books, something how Samsung’s “innie” design works. For example, when you fold the phone it becomes unusable unless the second display is working on the outside. Additionally, the fold area has a gap, which means it will not fold flare without a few tricks.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 addresses these problems though it has a few issues of its own. The phone comes with a single screen which cuts down on the costs. The natural curve on the outside of the phone makes it look amazing. The main cameras are housed in the back, to capture selfies without having to precariously hold the fragile phone. With the sensitive, flexible display on the outside, it remains exposed to elements and dangerous objects that may damage the soft material.Earlier last year Huawei Mate X2 scrapped the outie design for Samsung’s innie. Though now Huawei Mate Xs 2 bounces back with a new feature that is lacking in Galaxy Z Fold 3. The latest foldable phone from Huawei supports a stylus, the best part is you can work with it while your phone is open or folded. This is something you cannot do with a Samsung phone. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, you can use a stylus as its outer “Cover Screen” compatible with its special S Pen Fold Edition. Thanks to the different technologies from its regular Galaxy Note phones. It can be used when you open the phone to use the stylus on the flexible display inside. Huawei Mate Xs 2 is currently on sale only in China, so it remains to be seen when it will get a wider rollout. Priced at $1,500, there is no information about the global release yet. We are still miles away from purchasing a foldable phone without having to compromise or risk losing their investment in foldable phones. It will take some time for people to accept the design and be part of the mainstream.
